The vegetable season is coming to a close, but there are still plenty of opportunities to eat Bowers produce.
Many vegetables can be stored for several months with proper care. So next time you come by the store, stock up for the winter.
Follow the guidelines below to successfully store your produce. |
Refrigerator storage: Cut off all greens (if applicable) and store in a closed plastic bag in the crisper drawer (if vegetables are not completely dry, leave the bag cracked open a bit) * Carrots * Beets * Radishes |
Basement or pantry storage: Store in a mesh bag or open container (the idea is to have some ventilation) in a cool, dry, and dark spot such as a basement or pantry * Onions * Shallots * Garlic |

FOCUS ON CHILDREN'S DISCOVERY GARDEN |
This season's fundraising efforts are directed to the Children's Discovery Garden for ground breaking in 2024. |

The Farm is a place for children to discover and wonder in the world around them. We created a design for the garden with school kids and and expert. We are now ready to see the garden blossom from a design plan into reality: a hands-on, community-focused garden. | Financial and in-kind support is being sought from the community in many ways including: * Sponsor a Theme Garden * Sponsor a Garden Structure * Sponsor a School Garden * Leave your print by buying customized bricks for the pathway of the Garden * Donate any amount to support the Garden | Please consider joining us to provide a truly community garden at Bowers Farm. | Discover the garden here |

Worms and Soil Health: | There are over 9,000 species of worms and how each type impacts soil health and the environment varies greatly. Only 7 species of earthworms are considered suitable for vermicomposting.
In Michigan, we unfortunately have invasive earthworms called Jumping Worms. | Full Article Here | | Image from Michigan Invasive Species |

Join our Sustainability Efforts with Paper Recycling: | Use our Paper Retriever Bin for paper recycling! The bin is located east of the main gate, at the end of the gravel parking lot. The farm can raise money for recycling based on the amount of paper collected. We encourage you to regularly add paper to the bin. Please check HERE for details on what only is accepted. | |

In addition to glow tubing, we are adding a winter playscape with straw tower along with our farm animals (we will not have a skate rink this year).
