CURIOSITIES

LOOK UP!

February may be the shortest month, but it is filled with many wonderful happenings! Valentines’ Day usually takes over the spotlight, with its hearts and love, and this year we have a Leap Year to celebrate. But this month also provides us with a natural phenomenon as well.

Farmers often use moon charts as they plan for their crop planting and harvesting. The beautiful Full Snow Moon will rise on February 24, and we hope for a clear night to be able to view this celestial wonder. Dubbed Snow Moon because of the snow cover usually on the ground in the Northern Hemisphere, this moon takes on an extra glow as it is reflected off the snow. Some indigenous peoples called it the Bony Moon or the Hungry Moon, implying that food was scarce during this time of year. Whatever you call it, get outside, look to the sky and enjoy this beautiful full moon.

VOLUNTEERS

We are fortunate to have the support of so many volunteers to keep the farm operating smoothly and keep it beautiful. Volunteers help us by supporting Winter Park and farm chores, along with managing the flower beds.

We appreciate all the passion and assistance from our volunteers.  If you'd like to volunteer, please see more information HERE.

Bowers Farm 4-H

The 4-H Community has continued to provide amazing youth development opportunities.  The 4-H club was awarded a county award for the most community service hours earned and the number of people reached!

Master Gardeners of Oakland County

The Master Gardeners have provided countless hours of volunteer time beautifying our flower and herb gardens which provide additional interest and learning at the farm.
